Spotted at the DMV

Categories Uruguay

We got our new car three months ago, so this is old news, but as we were getting the license plates I swiveled my chair slight and surreptitiously took this picture.

un-filed papers in boxes

Umm, maybe they’re – umm, maybe – who the hell knows? Is there information here that a just-another-human bureaucrat can’t access with a few key strokes?

I like that idea.

  1. Just imagine how many stamps and signatures are on those papers. It is not only a mind-boggling waste of paper, but also a waste of all that labour and wages to affix all those stamps and signatures. I think you´re right, “rather charming”, in an Uruguayan sort of way.

  2. You’ve captured the spoils of an antiquated bureaucracy frozen in time. And what to do with all these spoils? Pile them up until the weight of the boxes just about collapses upon themselves and then off to the pyre for a proper burning. That way all the time, effort, and energy spent producing this pile can go up in smoke to highlight the importance of every document that was oh so necessary at the time but wound up not once ever seeing the light of day. The whole process then starts anew. It’s all so official and revenue productive.

  3. Oh no, I forgot the /s tag!
